Worship Service for June 14, 2020

WELCOME

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our leaders will meet today at 1:00 pm to discuss re-opening for corporate worship. Please continue to pray for them. Ask God to grant them wisdom. Pray for our congregation. Pray for the churches of America. Pray for our country.

I will be at the church building today from 12 noon to 1:00pm for those of you who wish to drop offer your offering. You may place it in the box marked “God’s Offering” that is located in the lobby.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ‘This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Worship Service for June 7, 2020

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our leadership team will be meeting next Sunday to decide when to reopen our sanctuary for corporate worship. Please pray that time will come soon.

But I am happy to announce that we can gather in our church parking lot today to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. You can start arriving any time after 11:30 am. As you pull in, you will be handed a plastic bag for every person in your car. Each bag will contain a Communion scripture, a plastic cup with a wafer, a cup with juice and a Communion prayer. Then pull in and park, filling the far lot first, please. At 12 noon, please read your scripture. Then watch for me standing on a step ladder at the corner of the two sidewalks. When I lift up the bread, receive the bread. When I hold up the cup a moment later, receive the cup. Close the ceremony by reading the Communion prayer. Then you are free to leave if you wish. If you brought your offering, you are welcome to bring it in the lobby and put it in the box for that purpose.

If you cannot come to the church for Communion, there will be a Communion liturgy as part of this written service. I would advise you to prepare your elements now and have them on hand for later.

Worship Service for May 31, 2020

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our Leadership Team is meeting again today to further discuss our proposed re-opening that we set for next Sunday. I mentioned that this was a fluid situation. And without going into detail, new information about the spread of CoVid 19 has come to light that will have an impact on our regathering for corporate worship. So, at this point, I cannot tell with certainty that we will proceed to open next week. All I can tell is that our leaders are doing the best they can to make a decision that will reflect God’s will for us. I will e-mail you with any updates later today.

Once again, let us open our hearts to praising and hearing the Word of the Lord by reading through the worship service. And now let us begin to worship by recognizing that this is Pentecost Sunday, the day on which the promise of Jesus to His disciples that His Father would send the Holy Spirit was fulfilled. This event was recorded by Luke in Acts.

CALL TO WORSHIP

On the day of Pentecost, all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that. No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel:

“In the last days,’ God says,
‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.
In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants;
men and women alike and they will prophesy.”

Worship Service for May 24, 2020

But before we begin to worship, I have a few church announcements:

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our leadership team will be meeting this afternoon at 1:00pm to discuss if we are still going to open for worship on June 7th. Please pray for them.

Speaking of praying, our next quarterly Prayer Vigil will take place this Wednesday, May 27th from 7 am to 7 pm. You can still sign-up for one of seventeen 20 minute time-slots still available by clicking the link on the e-mail sent Thursday. We will be praying for this current pandemic situation: that God will bring us through this, wisdom for our leaders (country and church), and that souls whose hearts are opening as a result of this pandemic will be filled with faith in Christ.

Next Friday is our monthly Community Meal. We will proceed as we have the last two times; by offering curbside service. John and Amy and their helpers will be offering: Boneless BBQ Rib Sandwich, JoJo Fries, Asian Slaw, and Snickerdoodle Bars for dessert. Yum! We are still in need of two volunteers to help out.

Gather to Scatter would normally take place next Sunday, but in light of the current situation, we are canceling. We have checked with the food pantry at The Church at the Lake. They are presently good. Thanks to those of you who have assisted them financially.

Worship Service for May 17, 2020

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our church leaders met this past Wednesday and decided that we could open for worship again on June 7th if the governor lifts the ban on gatherings of 10 or more. We are also anxiously watching the number of new cases reported in Medina County and are praying that they do not increase as a result of business re-openings.

Speaking of praying, our next quarterly Prayer Vigil will take place Wednesday, May 27th from 7 am to 7 pm. You will be invited to sign up for a 20 minute time-slot to pray for this current pandemic situation: that God will bring us through this, wisdom for our leaders (country and church).

Our leaders met last Sunday and decided we didn’t have enough information to announce a re-opening date at this time. When they have made a decision, I will let you know.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I have a book that contains the following Mother’s Day story:

“A friend of mine use to work in a small neighborhood dress shop, the Fig Leaf. One Saturday afternoon a little girl came in the store with her piggybank and announced she wanted to buy her mother a Mother’s Day present. The clerk friend helped her get all the coins out of the bank and counted them and let her know she had enough to buy a blouse. “Would your mother like a nice blouse?”
“Oh yes, a blouse would be perfect,” the child replied.
“What size is your mother?” the clerk asked.
“She’s the perfect size,” the little girl said.
So the clerk sold her a size 34 blouse.

The Monday after Mother’s Day the little girl and her mother came into the store to exchange the size 34 blouse for a size 42. The fashion world’s idea of a perfect size and that little girl’s idea were worlds apart. The difference was a heart full of love. ¹

I can tell you that today at 1:00 pm our leaders will be meeting to begin to discuss when and how we will reopen for worship. When we have made a decision, I will let you all know. All we can say for now is, “it’s Friday, but Sunday’s comin’.”

Here is the last letter written by one of the participants in my Thursday night Disciple 3 Bible Study, Tony Wolfe:

Dear CrossPointe,

We all have a road to Damascus; realizing that what we once were no longer counts, but what we can become with God’s light. With Jesus in our lives nothing is impossible anymore! The thought that we can be a part of a community full of love for all, no man an enemy, no more war is an outstanding idea. God/Jesus has opened a door for us . . . we just have to step through. The Road to Damascus will define us as part of God’s community. Rejoice all you sinners for there is light!

Now, before we begin to worship, I want to remind you that this is Communion Sunday. If you haven’t already, now is the time to prepare your bread and juice (or whatever you will use as symbols of Christ’s love). After you read the message, there is a communion scripture, a communion prayer that will lead to receiving the bread, a communion song, Give Thanks, another communion prayer that will lead to taking the cup, followed by another singing of Give Thanks.

Now because Psalm 126:2 says, “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”

I am hopeful that it will be at least by June 13th which will mark the 20th Anniversary of CrossPointe. Wouldn’t that be wonderful!? Actually it will be wonderful whenever that days comes. Our church leaders have decided to proceed with this month’s Community Meal this coming Friday, April 24th from 5 to 6:15 pm. Once again, it will be served to people in their cars as they drive up. We still need two more volunteers and will take the first two who contact me.

Because the wisest man who ever lived wrote: “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Proverbs 17:22).
