  • Gimme the Good News

Worship Service for Sunday, August 1st

    WELCOME

Good morning and welcome to CrossPointe Community Church. I thank God for all of you and for the opportunity to spend this time with you. My name is Jim for those of you who may be new. I am filling in for Randy this week. He is in the sunny state of Florida visiting.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

On Tuesday the parking lot will be sealed by Grainger Paving. They asked us to not drive on it for 24 hours, which means Thursday at the earliest.

A resident here in the Village of Chippewa is moving from his home and needs help moving things out of the house and garage. He is not in the best of health physically and could really use help. We will be starting at 9 am Tuesday morning. This is an opportunity for you to share God’s grace with the community. Anyone interested, please see me or Annie Dean after worship. There is a sign-up sheet with all the information on it. I am hoping that many hands make light work. There is much to do and a short time to complete it.

I saved the best for last. This is the first Sunday of the month and we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This table does not belong to any denomination, church or organization. It belongs to Jesus. He is inviting everyone so that your relationship with Him can deepen. No matter if you have loved Him for years or are just getting to know Him. Come and meet Him here.

Worship Service for July 25, 2021

    WELCOME

Good morning, welcome and thanks for joining CrossPointe Community Church’s online worship presentation. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May they bless us this day as a result of our choosing to be here.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Good news! Lindsay Brandenburg discovered a great way for us to audibly record and post the entire worship service. Besides hearing my message (as we used to do it), you will now be able to hear the musicians, the singers, and the congregation singing. To make this fun, imagine you are living back in the days prior to television when the folks used to sit listening to the radio.

As a reminder, we are having in-person worship at 10:00AM on Sundays. Vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask. If you are not vaccinated, we ask that you wear a mask and sit on the right side of the sanctuary where the chairs are spaced out further. If you wish to sit six feet apart from someone else, make sure that there is one chair between you and them.

My first job was working in an orange juice factory,
but I got canned; couldn’t concentrate.

Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack,
but I just couldn’t hack it, so they gave me the ax.

After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn’t suited for it
mainly because it was a so-so job.

Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was too exhausting.
I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company,
but the work was just too draining.

My last job was working at Starbucks,
but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

    SCRIPTURAL CALL TO WORSHIP

As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
I thirst for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before him?
Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?”
My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!
    Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
I will praise him again—my Savior and my God!

    Psalm 42:1-5

  • Scripture and Prayer Service

Worship Service for July 18, 2021

    WELCOME

Good morning, welcome and thanks for joining CrossPointe Community Church’s online worship presentation. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May they bless us this day as a result of our choosing to be here.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

I want to thank Jim, Lindsay, and Julianna Brandenburg for their tireless effort for the past 17 months in preparing music for our online worship services. I also wish to thank Lindsay for each week taking anywhere from 5 to 7 video segments Gail sends her way and integrating them with the music segments they provide and then uploading it all so that it can be seamlessly viewed by you.

We are grateful that we had the technology to do this during COVID; however; the time for providing this format has come to end. On August 1st, we will revert to what we were doing pre-COVID. We will record the live audio version of Sunday morning’s worship and make it available on our website for you to listen to. I will also continue to provide a written version of the sermon.

The benefits of this change are two-fold. First, you will no longer have to look at my ugly mug! And secondly, from my perspective, you will hear a much better sermon. It is not easy for me to preach to a camera lens. I can’t fully explain why, but I preach much better in the presence of the people of God. The downside of this change is obvious. You will not be able to access it until after the service. Lindsay will upload it from the church building after worship, so it should be ready by no later than noon, hopefully by 11:30 am.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

TIME TO TICKLE YOUR FUNNY BONES

What do you call a bone who thinks he is god?
    A blasfemur!

A boy was sitting on a park bench with one hand resting on an open Bible.
He was loudly exclaiming his praise to God: “Hallelujah! God is great!”
A man heard the boy and asked why he would say that.
The boy said, “I just read God enabled the Israelites to cross the Red Sea.”
The man laughed and said, “Modern scholarship has shown that the Red Sea in that area was only 10 inches deep at that time. It was no problem for the Israelites to wade across.”
The boy gave it some thought and then exclaimed, “God is greater than I thought! Not only did He lead the whole nation of Israel through the Red Sea, He topped it off by drowning the whole Egyptian army in 10 inches of water!”

Which reminds me of Psalm 96

    CALL TO WORSHIP

Sing a new song to the Lord!
Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!
Sing to the Lord; praise His name.
Each day proclaim the good news that He saves.
Publish His glorious deeds among the nations.
Tell everyone about the amazing things He does.
Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
He is to be feared above all gods.
The gods of other nations are mere idols,
but the Lord made the heavens!
    Honor and majesty surround Him;
strength and beauty fill His sanctuary.
    O nations of the world, recognize the Lord;
recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.
Give to the Lord the glory He deserves!
Bring your offering and come into His courts.
Worship the Lord in all His holy splendor!

    Psalm 96:1-9a

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

    Happy Independence Day!

By the way, does anyone know who we gained independence from?

    England.
You might be saying, “Everybody knows that.”
But as you will see later, not everybody in this country knows that.

Where was the Declaration of Independence signed? Wait . . . wait . . . wait for it . . . at the bottom!

Actually, it was signed in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia

In what year did we sign the Declaration of Independence?

    1776

That’s right, for 245 years, Americans have been sipping liber-tea.

Who was President when the Declaration was signed? Be careful with this one. If you don’t know the answer, look it up.

The theme for our float in the 4th of July parade is Founded on Faith; with a flag at one end and a cross at the other.

You are all invited to come to the church next Saturday, July 10th between 1 and 5 pm to help Ron and Rena Thomas celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary!

Today is Communion Sunday. You may want to stop reading to prepare your communion elements.

    CALL TO WORSHIP

    In you, Lord my God,
    I put my trust.
I trust in You; do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
No one who hopes in You will ever be put to shame,
but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
    Show me Your ways, Lord,
    teach me your paths.
Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
    and my rebellious ways.
According to your love remember me,
    for you, Lord, are good.

    Psalm 25:1-7

  • A Servant’s Reward

Worship Service for June 27, 2021

    WELCOME

Good morning, welcome and thanks for joining CrossPointe Community Church’s online worship presentation. As does the Apostle Paul in his letters to churches, I thank God for all of you and pray that as a result of participating today, you will draw closer to the Lord’s presence and grow more and more into His likeness.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thanks to those of you who spent last Friday evening at the church helping to serve our monthly Community Meal. We served 65 dinners.

You are all invited to come to the church on Saturday, July 10th between 1 and 4 pm to help Ron and Rena Thomas celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary!

    CALL TO WORSHIP

One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. [A debate with the Sadducees over the resurrection of the dead]. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: [and He first quotes Deuteronomy 6:4-5]. ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: [and now Jesus quotes Leviticus 19:18] ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘No other commandment is greater than these.”

The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. And I know it is important to love Him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.”

Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And after that, no one dared to ask Him any more questions.

    Mark 12:28-34

The man who questioned Jesus was close but no cigar. His moment would come. Would he be able to transfer his love for God to God’s Son?

    Happy Father’s Day.

Teacher (on phone): You say Michael has a cold and can’t come to school?
    To whom am I speaking?
    Voice: This is my father.

There’s a big difference between bad jokes and dad jokes.
And that difference is the first letter.

Why do fathers take an extra pair of socks golfing?
In case they get a hole in one.

“While having their evening dinner together, a little girl looked up at her father and asked, “Daddy, you’re the boss in our family, right?”
The father was very pleased to hear it and confidently replied,
    “Yes, my little princess.”
The girl then continued, “That’s because mommy put you in charge, right?”

Thanks to all who came to the church yesterday morning to help take care of a number of things that needed to be done for some time.

Next Friday is our monthly Community Meal. Menu includes BrandenBurgers, potato salad, fruit, and for dessert; are you ready . . . root beer float cake. This meal will be served take-out only. WELCOME

Good morning, welcome and thanks for joining CrossPointe Community Church’s online worship presentation. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our Trustees are hosting a Church Spiff-Up Day on Saturday morning, June 19th at 9 am. They are hopeful that a whole motley crew of people will show up with their ears pinned back, chomping at the bit to accomplish the list of items needing to be done. Just to tip you off, there’s some graffiti that needs to be removed from the woman’s restroom. One of our gals wrote, “My husband follows me everywhere.” Written underneath someone else, we don’t know who, wrote: “I do not.” More on this later.

    CALL TO WORSHIP

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me. There is more than enough room in My Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.”
“No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me. If you had really known Me, you would know who My Father is. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him!”
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father!”

Worship Service for June 6, 2021

I want to say once again, ‘Thank you’ to all who participated in any way in last week’s Gather to Scatter. The fact that we were able to accomplish three different projects has a lot to say about your faithfulness to our mission of Sharing God’s Grace with Our Community. Together, we are making a difference for God’s Kingdom.

All of you are invited to participate in our next quarterly Prayer Vigil which is this Wednesday, June 9th from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. As in the past, there will be 36 – 20 minute time slots available. If you would like to participate, please call Gail at (330) 241-0436 to claim your spot. Our theme for this Prayer Vigil is simply Prayer. That is, we are asking all of you to pray that CrossPointe would become a praying church. I’m not saying we don’t already pray. We do; individually and collectively. But every church in the world could benefit from a boost in its prayer life. With that in mind, among the other things that you pray for Wednesday, pray that our people will catch fire with a newfound enthusiasm for prayer. Pray that we would, all of us, on a regular basis, pray for our church leaders, our church members, and our church mission. Pray for our Pastoral Transition Succession Team; that their deliberations and decisions will bring us the next leader God has in mind. Pray that this Prayer Vigil is the beginning of something new at CrossPointe!

Lastly, today we celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion. Therefore, if you haven’t already, I would advise you to prepare your bread and juice or whatever else you are going to substitute for the body and blood of Christ.

    ANNOUNCEMENTS

Today is Gather to Scatter Sunday. After worship, we will be asking for several volunteers to go to the home of Ron and Rena Thomas. We’d like to give them a hand with a couple of outdoor projects. Thank you so much for your wonderful generosity. By the end of last Sunday’s Service, all of the items for the new SHC group home were accounted for! And lastly, we would like to encourage all of you to do business with local sponsors of the Where’s Chippy benefit. For example, if you have a hankering for good broasted chicken or pizza, check out Contessa’s on the Lake. This will be our way of saying thanks to them. We have thank you cards that you may hand to the folks you are doing business with.

    CALL TO WORSHIP

As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
